I loved Justin's style of writing! I found myself laughing out loud several times. What a wonderful adventure with two great characters. I hope to run into them on the water one day!
What a great read!
This is a story of utter ruin (the loss of home and possessions in a fire) which led to the pursuit of a dream to build a sailing boat and then having done so, to live aboard and sail to idyllic anchorages around Britain and France. Centred around a labour of love to construct a magnificent traditional yacht, this story is interwoven with amusing anecdotes, delightful descriptions and charming carictures of the weird and wonderful local folk who punctuated life en route.
A warm, slightly quirky tale, which I found thoroughly compelling and can only recommended highly.
Phoenix from the Ashes stirred memories of sailing in an old historic sailing craft based on traditional skills and experience.
The book relates the recovery from a domestic catastrophe to the excitement of creating a wonderful home which travels to remote and colourful backwaters of the coasts of the UK and France.The yarn is interlaced with many humourous incidents which lightens the drama of the occasion.
I found I wanted to be given more detail so I could relate even closer to what was happening, whether it was the excitement of a thrash to windward or the tranquillity of a quiet mooring.
A book for a sailor, a traveller and anyone who feels life can be exciting.
A terrific glimpse into the lives of two glib, thoughtful, sailing vagabonds whose dry wit and openhearted spirit splash across every page.
Starts of interesting, then just meanders into random stories about things that happened while out sailing around. Maybe I need to go sail around for a while to relate better.
